Turkey Shoots

The 2024 Paris Olympics have been filled with extraordinary and unexpected events. The marathon was rerouted due to unexpected flooding in the streets of Paris. High levels of E. coli in the Seine River postponed the men's triathlon, despite a $1.5 billion cleanup effort. Among the standout stories is Turkey's Yusuf Dikec, a sharp shooter who went viral for winning a silver medal with virtually no traditional equipment, highlighting true Olympic grit. Katie Ledecky secured her 13th career medal in the 4×200m relay, setting the record for most medals by an American female swimmer. Simone Biles also added to her legendary status with another gold in the gymnastics team final.

Preseason Starts!

The NFL preseason officially kicked off last night with the Hall of Fame Game between the Chicago Bears and the Houston Texans. This game marked the start of preseason action and celebrated the newest inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, the game had to be called in the third quarter due to weather, giving the bears a 21-17 “victory.” The rest of the preseason games will continue next Thursday, August 8th. Football fans can finally rejoice as the season gets underway! Major UFC Antitrust Verdict

U.S. District Judge Richard Boulware denied preliminary approval for a $335 million settlement in the UFC antitrust lawsuit. The case, filed in 2014, alleges UFC's anti-competitive practices suppressed fighter wages. The UFC expressed disappointment, citing disregard for expert counsel and mediation. Plaintiffs' attorney Eric Cramer remains open to new negotiations. Judge Boulware previously indicated the settlement amount seemed low, with potential damages reaching multibillions if the UFC loses at trial. The lawsuit will proceed with a status conference in August and a tentative trial in October.
